Retrieving User Id in Web API 2 Controller – .NET

Hi everyone,

Just a quick post on how to retrieve the current user’s id in a Web API 2 controller:

var userId = RequestContext.Principal.Identity.GetUserId();

Note that you’ll need the following using statements:

using Microsoft.AspNet.Identity;
using System.Web.Http;

Git Ignore Template for .NET

Hi everyone,

A sample .gitignore file for if you’re working with .net:

*.cache
*.dll
*.exe
*.pdb
/build/
*.suo
*.user
_ReSharper.*/
*.sdf
*.opensdf
*.tlog
*.log
TestResult.xml
*.VisualState.xml
Version.cs
Version.h
Version.cpp

Also, if you happen to have added some files you didn’t mean to:

git rm –cached file_you_dont_want.pdb
git commit -m “Remove pdb file”

Import an Existing Project to BitBucket

Hi everyone,

Today I needed to import an existing project to Bitbucket. The documentation is really good, but just in case you have trouble finding it:

  1. Navigate to the root directory of your project.
  2. Run the following commands in terminal/command prompt:
    git init
    git add –all
    git commit -m “Initial Commit”
  3. Login to Bitbucket and create repository.
  4. Locate the clone URL (left menu) e.g. https://email_address.bitbucket.domain:7999/project_name/repo.git
  5. Upload your files:
    git remote add origin https://email_address.bitbucket.domain:7999/project_name/repo.git
    git push -u origin master

Unsupported_Grant_Type – MVC Web Api (error)

Hi everyone,

I ran into the following error while attempting to authenticate using .NET Web Api:

POST http://localhost:63720/Token HTTP/1.1
Host: localhost:63720
Content-Type: application/json
Content-Length: 0
HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
Content-Type: application/json;charset=UTF-8
Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2018 14:18:06 GMT
Content-Length: 34

{“error”:”unsupported_grant_type”}

This one was pretty straight forward. Ensure that have the correct content-type:

Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded

And finally, ensure that you provide a grant type in the request body:

grant_type=password&username=test_username&password=test_password

FAILED. Reason: Requires capabilities : [CAPABILITY_IAM] – AWS SAM

Hi everyone,

I ran into an error today while trying to deploy using AWS SAM:

aws cloudformation deploy –template-file C:Usersxxxserverless-output.yaml –stack-name events-app
Failed to create the changeset: Waiter ChangeSetCreateComplete failed: Waiter encountered a terminal failure state Status: FAILED. Reason: Requires capabilities : [CAPABILITY_IAM]

The solution is pretty straightforward. You need to explicitly add –capabilities CAPABILITY_IAM to you command:

AttributeError: module ‘serial’ has no attribute ‘SerialException’ – Python 3.5

Hi everyone,

A quick fix for an error I ran into while updating to Pyhton 3.5.2:

AttributeError: module 'serial' has no attribute 'SerialException'

I needed to add pyserial:

pi@raspberrypi:~/Desktop/piscripts/get-commands $ sudo pip3.5 install pyserial
Collecting pyserial
  Downloading pyserial-3.4-py2.py3-none-any.whl (193kB)
    100% |████████████████████████████████| 194kB 530kB/s
Installing collected packages: pyserial
Successfully installed pyserial-3.4

AttributeError: ‘dict’ object has no attribute ‘iteritems’ – Python

Hey everyone,

Just running through object detection samples for Tensorflow and I encountered the following error:

Sample: https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/tensorflow-object-detection-example

AttributeError: ‘dict’ object has no attribute ‘iteritems’

The issue seems to be that the sample hasn’t been made compatible with Python 3.x. Simply make the following change and it should work:

# Original
for cls, new_image in new_images.iteritems():

# Changed
for cls, new_image in new_images.items():

VirtualDog Tutorial PluralSight

Hey everyone,

Just taking a quick look at Jasmine with Typescript and found a decent looking tutorial on PluralSight with a sample app called VirtualDog. Attempting to run the following command resulted in an error on Windows 10:

Exited with code 9009 – Visual Studio Build

Hey everyone,

I ran into the following error today while attempting to build a solution:

combiner exited with code 9009

It apparently means that a file couldn’t be found. The solution was to simply restart visual studio.

I’d been manually adding them to the directory and this is apparently a common cause. See the following Stackoverflow post for more info: https://stackoverflow.com/a/28198020/522859
